Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost

Jesus said to his disciples: “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said: “Receive the Holy Spirit.” As we celebrate Pentecost in our homes and our parish communities, there are two qualities we need to develop – peace and energy. Peace is Christ’s desire for us as we journey with him and with one another. But peace is not a passive thing. Rather it is a dynamic way of life. We are to be his witnesses in the world, and so he gives us his Holy Spirit so that we can have the energy we need in order to witness through love. This love is practised and developed in marriage and family life. It needs to be extended to the life of the parish community. Our motto for this week of Pentecost can be: Love as if everything depends on you. Live as if everything depends on God.”

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Morning Prayer, when together

God our Father

let the Spirit you sent on your Church

to begin the teaching of the gospel

continue to work in our love for one another

and in the hearts of all who believe.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Lord, may the Spirit you promised

lead us into all truth and reveal to us

the full meaning of our sacrament of marriage.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Father, may our love for one another

help our eternal redemption.

Keep within us the vigour of your Spirit

and protect the gifts you have given to your Church.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: What are three of the best gifts your wife/husband has right now? How will you communicate that this week?

For others: Choose two or three people in your life. What are three of the best gifts each of them has? How will you tell them this week?
