20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.

 August 18th – 24th 2013

 Victory with Christ

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to bring fire to the earth and how I wish it were blazing already”.  Fire can be a source of fear when it is a danger to us, or a source of warmth and comfort when it is at our service.  For many people Christ is like that.  He is a source of fear when we see him calling us to change and we are reluctant to do so.  Equally he is a source of warmth and comfort when we put our trust in him and in his way of life.  For many married people marriage can be seen as a restraint on their liberty and can cause resentment.  Or it can be seen as a wonderful gift of love that liberates the heart.  Jesus is with us to bring us the fullness of life.  For some of us that can mean the pain of surrendering our own ways of life and adopting his.  But his ways are guaranteed to bring us joy and gladness and a sense of the wonder of life.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Morning Prayer, when together

God our Father, may we love you in all things

and above all things

and reach the joy you have prepared for us

beyond all our imaginings.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Lord, accept the sacrifice of our love for one another.

By offering what you have given us,

may we receive the gift of yourself.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

God of mercy,

By our sacrament of marriage you make us one with Christ.

By becoming more like him on earth,

may we come to share his glory in heaven.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage:  How can you anticipate some need in the life of your wife/husband this week?

For others:  Who would appreciate a contact from you this week?  How will you plan to make it?
